clutter all over the flat, reflects her unorderly life. The filmmaker tries to show that her life is out of order.

Cinematography:
Extreme closeup of Amy's interview whilst she was high; detail of her unfocused eyes.

natural lighting
Still closeups often close or extreme closeup, with camera very slowly tracking in.
Closeup of Amy's face stretching her hand out to camera showing her vulnerability.

Editing:
* Paparazzi cameras flashing - combines with freeze frames and elliptical editing / jump cuts to disorientate spectator / replicate Amy's increasingly fragile mental condition. Also represents the panic and hectic atmosphere.
*Captions used for lyrics, locations and times so the spectator can be on track for what happened when in Amy's life and be precise about it. Highlights that this is a 'true' story, not fiction; also documents her life.
It makes the spectator feel close to Amy by making it more relateable.

The juxtaposition of moving and still image - often lengthy cuts are used for the still images, with post-production track-ins used.

Sound
Approximately 25 seconds of silence during still images of drug abuse - much of this sequence uses silence or minimal VO with very little non-diegetic music - creates an eerie, foreboding, uneasy atmosphere. For a film about music ad making noise, the silence gives the spectator breathing space - the chance to reflect on this cataclysmic spell in amy's life and realise the devastating impact of her drug abuse

We are shown the home video footage of the Eden project concert instead of
the filmmaker manipulates us to see this passage of her life as continually abysmal. Flattens the sound and makes it tinny - it warps her voice. They blame the paparazzi for her drug abuse. It has been manipulated. If professional footage had been used this would allow it to come across much better. Subtle spectator challenge put down by the director.

* Use of VO operates in conjunction with editing.
