 Representation refers to the construction in (any medium) of aspects of reality, such as people, places, objects, events and cultural identities.

 Mediation- The 3 aspects that combine to create producer's interpretation

 Selection- The process where lots of parts of the film are cut out to create the finished product

 Organisation/Editing- Organising the story (and shots) to tell a story in a certain way, putting across the director's view.

 Focussing- What the director wants you to think about when you're watching the film

How useful has an ideological critical approach been in understanding the narrative resolution of your chosen films? (When looking at the films from a perspective of intense study, what can you find about the director's ideologies of feminism etc) Cinematography: -The scene begins with a shot of a reflection of Kevin eating in the glass table. There are two different ways that Kevin is seen by his parents. It is a reminder to the audience that Eva is reconfiguring the past. -Kevin is positioned centre frame, the audience's gaze is directed towards him, this reflects that Kevin's status and power is dominant over both of his parents. cinematography: shot so that the spectator can see from Ben's perspective. Handheld camera and shallow depth of field to pick out individual characters. Muted colour palette reflects the staid atmosphere of the scene. Ben sits at the end of the table in a place of authority. He has dominion over the situation. Comparative shots, between the two lifestyles with the cutaways to gage the reactions of the uncle and aunt. Lots of closeups and use of shallow depth of field. We align with the cash family. Costume differences between the families. Setting: characters being anomalous within the suburban setting.
